There is so much information on how to get sober. Some of the information comes from rehabs that want a quick check, some of it comes from people who don’t truly understand drug addiction and alcoholism. As a former poly-addict who now has over 4 years of sobriety, I’m going to share with you the very first and most important step to my sobriety. I understand what you’re going through and have no hidden motive. My only hope is by sharing the solution which worked for me it gives you hope.
How to Get Sober? This is the First Step…
You have to want it so bad you’re willing to do whatever it takes. The reason “do” is bolded is because getting sober takes action. We as addicts and alcoholics suffer from a brain disease, it’s hard to think your way out of a illness which centers in our organ responsible for thought processing. My best thinking got me to where I was, and it sure as hell wasn’t going to get me out. Early sobriety I had to combat my thought process with action. I had to do things that my mind went against.
What if I’m Not Sure I Want to Be Sober?
No one can convince you to want to be sober to the point of being willing to take action. There’s nothing I can type here that will impose a deep desire for sobriety. If things haven’t gotten bad enough yet, you aren’t done experimenting. This disease wants you dead. It will kill your health, relationships, freedom, and sanity over time. Your bottom is where you stop digging, but it varies for each individual. Until then, I don’t think it’s wrong to have a foot in sobriety and try your best. I went to meetings and studied addiction before I was ready, none of it was going to work until I was done with using, but taking that action made the transition into recovery easier.
