DMT VS Salvia Trip – How are they different, how are they similar?
A question that bugged my mind for quite some time was “DMT vs Salvia?” The reason this was a puzzle I had to solve is I had interest in trying DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine) but after my horrific experience with the Salvia trip (salvinorin-a) I was hesitant. I will start off the blog with the similarities so you understand why I correlated these two entheogenic compounds in the first place.
Similarities:
The only real similarity between the DMT and Salvia trip is their duration of action and route of administration. Both of these compounds are smoked and have an extremely short half-life. Because the duration of a smoked dose last 5-15 minutes someone can go as far down the rabbit hole as they’d like and return minutes later. This means people will dose high enough to travel to another dimension and be reasonably safe.
Sure, someone could take enough LSD or psilocybin mushrooms to go to another dimension. However, they wouldn’t be relatively safe because of a longer duration of action. You wouldn’t want to be so far gone you leave your body for more than 15 minutes. This could lead to psychological problems, physical damage, and legal repercussions.
How are they different?
The salvia trip is induced by Salvinorin-A which is a kappa-opioid agonist. It’s one of the very few substances that effect these receptors in the brain. The DMT trip is induced by N,N-Dimethyltryptamine, a 5-HT2A agonist which is the same as classic hallucinogens like LSD, shrooms, mescaline, etc. Because of this, Salvia feels extremely different then other psychedelics. It’s referred to as an “atypical psychedelic” for having such drastically different effects. The physiological effects greatly separate the substances in the debate on DMT vs Salvia.
Low dose differences?
The DMT trip is beautiful, elegant, and easier to digest than the Salvia trip. At low doses you will have open eye visuals and not feel your judgement being altered much. In contrast, at lower doses with Salvia you won’t have sensory hallucinations but more-so see things with your perception. You “envision” things happening on Salvia. For instance, you’ll see the room as normal but will envision it as being wrapped in plastic while you’re turning into a box.
Where does the DMT trip take you?
Understanding the low dose will help me explain the doses that cause astral projection. When you breakthrough on DMT it’s incredibly profound, more profound than Salvia. They commonly refer to the DMT dimension as “hyperspace”. Everything is moving extremely fast and is beyond comprehension, you leave your body, forget you were human, you encounter highly advanced alien lifeforms, and much more beyond comprehension.
It’s all moving so fast you’re astonished and can’t get ahold of yourself. You don’t have any sense of past or future, you’re just in the moment. To an extent you’re completely sober mentally, but your sensory is completely gone. You’re in a “trance” state forced to go with the experience. I never gave the experience much resistance because there was no time to. What I was seeing felt natural to an extent, like I had been there before.
You’re force fed information you can’t comprehend or retain post-trip. An example is how we can’t comprehend a being or force that has no beginning or end. In hyperspace you’re able to comprehend concepts like this and many more. They’re literally flooding through your synapsis at light speed.
You’re a spirit, an observer in a spiritual realm that’s just as real as the realm we live in…
Where does the Salvia trip take you?
High doses of smoked Salvia extract take you somewhere completely different. This is where DMT vs Salvia becomes minute. The place Salvia takes you is commonly referred to as “Sally Space”. Salvia space isn’t as profound as hyperspace, it’s just as intense if not more-so in some aspects.
On salvia you leave your body and forget you were human like DMT. However, when you leave your body on Salvia it feels a lot more internal. You completely forget you’re human, there’s not even a shred of you ever having been human. You’re judgement is altered to such an extreme you don’t even observe the space like a human would. This gives Sally Space a feeling of more vast eternity “this always was and always will be.”
You also feel gravity and movement on Salvia. Things like “unfolding” you will physically feel. Commonly you turn into inanimate objects. The best way to describe it is to tell someone imagine turning into a slot in a slot machine. You literally feel yourself spinning, see yourself as a slot, feel like a slot, believe you’re a slot. Just as much as you believe you’re human right now.
There’s more of a resistance to this experience. I would tend to fight it and not be in a trance forced to go with it. I would feel this dread deep down “I don’t want to be aware if I’m an inanimate object!” But you can’t stop it. It always was and always will be. This experience redefines terrifying.
While Salvia moves very rapid, there’s more moments of pause for dialogue though they’re fleeting. After Salvia is over you swear you’ll never do it again. Salvia is very dysphoric, coming down you feel sweaty and like you just been violated by a plant.
On Salvia you leave this world to turn into an inanimate object and are traumatized…
So there you have it…
In summary of the topic “DMT vs Salvia”, Salvia feels like a witch gave you a potion and is chuckling cause you actually drank it. DMT feels like a divine gift from some force that exists in the afterlife and is the core of all creation. DMT is more profound, Salvia is more brutal.
